Happy Tu b'Shevat

Happy New Year, Trees!

This past weekend I was visiting my parents. Dad and I took a walk around to look at the state of his trees. We noticed the state of the pecan tree. Pecan trees are seriously lacking in the winter. They are one of those trees that looks, well, dead. No leaves. Scraggily old skinny branches.

This tree did not look so well. We wondered if it was not making it. The squirrels gleaned every single pecan this year, so there were no pies.

As we approached the tree to inspect, I grabbed one of the branches. As I inspected like a monkey looking at his neighbor's head for gnats. I did not find a delicious bug, but I saw teensy little buds... a bunch of them.

This tree is getting ready for spring. Regardless of what Phil the groundhog says, the little pecan tree has decided that this is the year. In a very short time, we will see leaves all over. Naked no more.

The Holy Scriptures are full of the mention of trees from start to finish.

Remember that the first sin took place at a tree. We can all overcome by the covering that we have been given. The blood of Yeshua has made us new and given us new life. As we receive the Holy Spirit's (Ruach HaKodesh) latter rain, we are ready for new life and the promise of glorious fruit.

We are partakers in the best tree, the choicest in the garden - the TREE OF LIFE.

Tu b'Shevat is called the New Year For Trees. While we know that the Biblical year starts in the month of Aviv, it is appropriate to thank Him for the newness of life in His Kingdom. We can Bless the trees during this special time.

For the Lord your God is bringing you into a good land, a land of brooks of water, of fountains and springs, flowing out in the valleys and hills, a land of wheat and barley, of vines and fig trees and pomegranates, a land of olive trees and honey, - Deut. 8:7-8

Have you blessed your trees today? Shalom.
